STATE OF THE TAVERN ADDRESS
MY FELLOW DINERS ...
I am proud to deliver this year’s State of the Restaurant Address, especially at a time when our approval rating is higher than ever!
The unethical actions of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff have tainted many of my colleagues, but I am pleased to say that Mr. Abramoff has never met with me or anyone on my staff. In fact, I believe that our staff at Tony P's is by far the best and most experienced group you will find anywhere.
Their longevity as members of my “Kitchen Cabinet” is a testament to the fact that they are incredibly loyal and talented. This year, we celebrated Chef Guillermo Rodriguez’s 20th anniversary with us an enormous accomplishment given the turnover in most administrations. In addition, I know we have the best management team ever, and I’d like to congratulate our managers: General Manager Paul Macklin (‘86), Denise Polano (‘98), Jerry Harroff (‘04) and Agatha Velick (‘05) for their outstanding contributions to the team!
After recently winning a hard-fought battle for President of the L.A. Chapter of the California Restaurant Association, I have had the opportunity to visit many other restaurants on the campaign trail, and I am proud of our accomplishments.
I am proud, too, of some of the accolades we have received. This year, we were named by “9 On the Town,” KCAL-9 television’s dining program, as the No. 3 “Bargain Steakhouse” in Los Angeles. But Tony P’s will not stop there. We have enlisted the help of several prominent lobbying firms (unassociated with Mr. Abramoff) and will do everything in our power to climb to No. 1 in 2006. Everyone knows there’s no better place in L.A. to get a great steak than right here!
GREAT BREAKFAST ...
There is no doubt that Tony P’s is a lunch and dinner Superpower, but the reality is that we are quietly the area’s No. 1 producer of great breakfasts at bargain prices as well. Others might claim to have a Contract With America, but we are proud to have a Contract With Our Diners ... they will always get a great breakfast with great service at a great price!
Now, I’d like to take a moment to discuss my new domestic policy, which focuses on new dessert flavors and new wines from right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. Keep an eye out for our new menu changes, and be sure to sample these wonderful new desserts and new wines when they arrive.
Of course, Tony P’s purveyors routinely scour the globe for new and interesting menu items. Now on the menu is a treat brought to me from the Pacific Northwest steamed clams in a fantastic pesto sauce. It took a fair amount of negotiating with the powerful clam unions that went public with our deal a little early, but when I told them to “Clam Up!” they quickly gave in.
