STATE OF THE TAVERN ADDRESS

Since I was elected to office, I have criss-crossed the nation, meeting people of all ages and backgrounds. And while some might be more conservative and others a bit more liberal, they all agree that March Madness is the best time of the year.

At Tony P’s, we can hardly disagree. With our longtime commitment to being the world’s greatest sports tavern and our recent installation of HD televisions throughout the tavern, you won’t want to miss a minute of the action when March Madness begins.

In fact, as a tribute to our friends across the pond in Ireland, I have pulled some strings in Congress and made sure that this year’s NCAA basketball tournament begins on St. Patrick’s Day. I thought that would be a fitting tribute to the folks ingreen who gave us potatoes, corned beef and Leprechauns! Join us for a great day of green beer, corned beef and cabbage and more as we celebrate St. Patty’s Day and the tip off of the NCAA Tournament as well.

WANNA PARTY?

My administration has made it a point to bring its constituency all the best when it comes to parties. Whether you’re a Republican, a Democrat or even a Whig, we have a party for you right here in our Dockside Room.

I’d like to personally thank each and every corporation, club and individual who used our Dockside Room last year and remind those who are planning parties now to reserve your date soon because we fill up fast. Don’t wait until Saddam gets sentenced or the nation loses its dependence on oil from the Middle East ... by then it could be too late.

CAMPAIGN PROMISES ...

I am excited about the prospects for 2006, and I’m going out on a limb to make the following campaign promises.

  • Tony P's Tavern will show each and every game during March Madness from little LMU to powerhouses like Duke and Kansas!
  • We will serve all-you-can eat fish and chips from Mardi Gras to Easter for just $13.95!
  • We will continue our 30% off Monday night promotion -- unless we get indicted for having too good a deal!
  • And last, but not least, we will go out of our way to help schools raise money through our Dockside Dollar fundraiser program that has already helped raise more than $100,000! If you’re interested, call Laura at (310) 645-2295 to get started ... and be sure to tell her how much you like redheads (She loves to hear that, and I need some help with the redhead caucus!)

I will not fail you! Thank you for your support! God bless Tony P’s! And God bless America!

STATE OF THE TAVERN ADDRESS

MY FELLOW DINERS ...

I am proud to deliver this year’s State of the Restaurant Address, especially at a time when our approval rating is higher than ever!

The unethical actions of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff have tainted many of my colleagues, but I am pleased to say that Mr. Abramoff has never met with me or anyone on my staff. In fact, I believe that our staff at Tony P's is by far the best and most experienced group you will find anywhere.

Their longevity as members of my “Kitchen Cabinet” is a testament to the fact that they are incredibly loyal and talented. This year, we celebrated Chef Guillermo Rodriguez’s 20th anniversary with us – an enormous accomplishment given the turnover in most administrations. In addition, I know we have the best management team ever, and I’d like to congratulate our managers: General Manager Paul Macklin (‘86), Denise Polano (‘98), Jerry Harroff (‘04) and Agatha Velick (‘05) for their outstanding contributions to the team!

After recently winning a hard-fought battle for President of the L.A. Chapter of the California Restaurant Association, I have had the opportunity to visit many other restaurants on the campaign trail, and I am proud of our accomplishments.

I am proud, too, of some of the accolades we have received. This year, we were named by “9 On the Town,” KCAL-9 television’s dining program, as the No. 3 “Bargain Steakhouse” in Los Angeles. But Tony P’s will not stop there. We have enlisted the help of several prominent lobbying firms (unassociated with Mr. Abramoff) and will do everything in our power to climb to No. 1 in 2006. Everyone knows there’s no better place in L.A. to get a great steak than right here!

GREAT BREAKFAST ...

There is no doubt that Tony P’s is a lunch and dinner Superpower, but the reality is that we are quietly the area’s No. 1 producer of great breakfasts at bargain prices as well. Others might claim to have a Contract With America, but we are proud to have a Contract With Our Diners ... they will always get a great breakfast with great service at a great price!

Now, I’d like to take a moment to discuss my new domestic policy, which focuses on new dessert flavors and new wines from right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. Keep an eye out for our new menu changes, and be sure to sample these wonderful new desserts and new wines when they arrive.

Of course, Tony P’s purveyors routinely scour the globe for new and interesting menu items. Now on the menu is a treat brought to me from the Pacific Northwest – steamed clams in a fantastic pesto sauce. It took a fair amount of negotiating with the powerful clam unions that went public with our deal a little early, but when I told them to “Clam Up!” they quickly gave in.
